Why am I being charged stamp duty on my contract?

Why am I being charged stamp duty on my contract?

It is important to note that you are not being charged stamp duty extra to your agreed purchase price, we are required to show it as a separate item in your total purchase price.

After you accept a "Drive Away Price" (referred to on your contract as the "TOTAL DELIVERED PRICE"), we enter this price in to your contract. Working backwards, the stamp duty applicable is calculated and then removed from the "Drive Away Price" and listed on your contract separately. The balance is then listed as the "Vehicle Sale Price". When you add the two together you arrive at your "Drive Away Price' listed on the contract.

The reason the stamp duty is listed separately is so that we can recognise the charge from Queensland Transport but mostly so that you are charged the correct amount of GST as registration costs such as transfer fees are excluded from having GST charged.
1st July 2018 - Queensland introduced a higher stamp duty class on light vehicles such as motorhomes that are under 4.5T GVM. This change means that if your motorhome base price (Vehicle Sale Price) is $100,000 or more then you will be charged 5% stamp duty instead of the 3% that normaly applies.
If you are going to register your vehicle interstate, we will remove the registration and stamp duty costs from your contract. You can refer to the below State Stamp Duty Rates pages to find out what rate you will have apply to your purchase once you register your vehicle.

State Stamp Duty Rates:
  1. Queensland - QLD Stamp Duty Rates
  2. New South Wales - NSW Stamp Duty Rates
  3. Victoria - VIC Stamp Duty Rates
  4. Northern Territory - NT Stamp Duty Rates
  5. South Australia - SA Stamp Duty Rates
  6. Western Australia - WA Stamp Duty Rates
Below is a screen shot of the Vehicle Pricing that shows you how this works.

EXAMPLE: Mr Jones bought a used motor home for $102,500 and has a few options included in the purchase. The total delivered price reflects the agreed price of $102,500. The registration transfer fee amount has been listed separately as $28.05 and the stamp duty has been calculated backwards at $2,985.00 so we have reduced the Vehicle Sale Price to $99,486.95 to ensure that your Total Delivered Price is still $31,800. If you purchased a new motorhome, you would not have a transfer fee but instead a registration and ctp charge in your options.
If you add options after the drive away price is agreed upon, these options willbe listed along with the registration figure. Your "Vehicle Sale Price" should never change.
If you add options to a vehicle where stamp duty applies please note that you will be charged stamp duty as an additional amount to all quoted options.
