I thought registration was included in my purchase, why am I being charged?

It is important to note that you are not being charged registration extra to your agreed purchase price, we are required to show it as a separate item in your total purchase price.

After you accept a "Drive Away Price" (referred to on your contract as the "TOTAL DELIVERED PRICE"), we enter this price in to your contract. Working backwards, the registration figure is calculated and removed from the "Drive Away Price" and listed on your contract separately. The balance is then listed as the "Vehicle Sale Price". When you add the two together you arrive at your "Drive Away Price' listed on the contract.

The reason the registration is listed separately is so that we can recognise the charge from Queensland Transport but mostly so that you are charged the correct amount of GST as registration costs are excluded from having GST charged. Below is a screen shot of the Vehicle Pricing that shows you how this works.

 

EXAMPLE: Mr Jones bought a caravan for $52,000 and didn't require any options other than the standard inclusions. The total delivered price reflects the agreed price of $52,000. The registration amount has been listed separately as $239.50 so we have reduced the Vehicle Sale Price to $51,760.50 to ensure that your Total Delivered Price is still $52,000.

If you add options after the drive away price is agreed upon, these options will be listed along with the registration figure. Your "Vehicle Sale Price" should never change.
