How To Use - 50mm Ball Coupling
AL-KO 50mm Ball CouplingOperation:
- Make sure Tow Ball and Coupling is free of sand, dirt and foreign objects, and is lightly lubricated.
- Release the Safety Latch by depressing the Lever; Lift the handle while keeping the Safety Latch released and release the Safety Latch once Handle is fully extended.
- Raise height of trailer Coupling above vehicle Tow Ball by adjusting Jockey Wheel.
- Align Coupling over Tow Ball by moving either vehicle or trailer, and lower Coupling onto Tow Ball. Ensure the Coupling is fully seated on Tow Ball.
- Lift the Handle up and release the Safety Latch to then lower the Handle back down until the Safety Latch locks back in place. Ensure the Handle and Safety Latch are back in their original position.

The hole on the Safety Latch plate allows for a small padlock to be installed for added security.
You can purchase a lock for the 50mm Ball Coupling to ensure the Coupling cannot be used.
Troubleshooting:
Adjusting the Ball Adjustment Screw
- To adjust the ball adjustment screw, the coupling must be first fitted to the tow ball.
- The 21mm locking nut should first be loosened by turning anticlockwise.
- Using a large ‘flat head’ screwdriver, the adjustment screw should then be turned clockwise until contact is made with the ball.
- Only very light contact should be made otherwise premature wear may occur.
- Tighten the locking nut to ensure the adjustment of the screw does not change.

The adjuster screw on an AL-KO tow ball coupling is designed to minimise the design clearance of the tow ball within the coupling socket. The adjuster is not designed to compensate for a tow ball that is under size. Careful attention should be paid to the ball size in the case of excessive wear.
